Principal's Message

September 2020
Hello Students and Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. After 4 months of school closures last spring, SMPS has successfully re-opened for in-person learning. This year we have approximately 355 students attending in-person learning and 175 student learning remotely in the Ottawa-Carleton Virtual School (OCV). This will be a challenging school year but SMPS staff are ready to provide students with a safe and engaging education.
About me:
This will be my 17th year as Principal /Vice-Principal. I have been a Principal for 9.5 years and was a Vice-Principal 6.5 years. During the past 16 years I have been a school administrator at Katimavik ES (Gr 4-8), Bayshore P.S. (K-5), Fisher Park/Summit Alternative (Gr. 7/8), Bridlewood C.E.S. (K-8 – at the time), and now at South March P.S. (K-6)

My wife is also a teacher with the OCDSB, and we have two boys who keep us very busy – a 6 and 8 year old who both attend one of our great OCDSB schools.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions/concerns. You can visit the school, call me, or email me –
Take care,
Jeff Gervais
