EQAO results for Grade 3 and Grade 6 children

___________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here are a few updates and information items:

- our student population is currently sitting at approximately 565 students.

- I would like to welcome and introduce the following staff members who have recently joined the South March team: Mme Stephanie Patenaude who is now with us full time. Mr. Tom Raubic who is working with us in the mornings teaching Grade 4/5 EFI, Ms. Hannah Thibert who is an Educational Assistant working in our Autism Program, Mrs. Sandra LeBouthillier who is working in kindergarten, Mrs. Sandra Elgie who is teaching Grade 5/6 English and Math. We are currently in the process of replacing our second Educational Assistant for our mainstream program. Mrs. Sue Brar has taken another position. I'd also like to welcome Alison Theobald back to her regular position in kindergarten.

- There have been some changes to our office team. It is with mixed emotion that I let you know that Mary Lines - Office Assistant - will now only be with us in the afternoons. Mary has joined the new Kanata Highlands staff in the morning. (Please note that this reduction is as a result of budget decisions and not due to declining enrolment.) This is a significant change that will impact the level of service that we can provide to our families. Please understand that we will try to do the very best we can under the current circumstances. We will be asking for our families to understand that our number one priority will be for the safety and well-being of our students. This will likely mean that on some occasions, we will be unable to answer the phone right away or call a student down on a moment's notice for a forgotten lunch or sunscreen. We are asking that disruptions during the day be kept to a minimum whenever possible and that when appointments do arise, that the classroom teacher be made aware in advance. Planning ahead will be the key. This is a transition that will take some adjustment as the year progresses.

- Empty Seat Applications: this year, we currently have 3 yellow school buses and several taxis / vans that are transporting our students. You can complete an Empty Seat Application by completing the form in the main office. A reminder that Empty seats are not fulfilled until October.

- Playground supervision begins at 9am in the mornings and ends at 4pm in the afternoons. I'd like to remind parents that the school does not supervise children outside of these times and that early drop off or late pick ups cannot occur.

- Daily schedule is as follows:

9:15am - 11:15am Instruction Block One / 11:15am to 12 noon Nutrition Break / 12 noon to 2pm Instruction Block Two / 2pm to 2:45pm Nutrition Break / 2:45pm to 3:45pm Instruction Block Three.

- A reminder that the front bus loop is reserved for yellow bus and OCDSB vans / taxis only. Parents who are dropping off their children by car will need to use the "Kiss N Ride" loop which is adjacent to the Daycare entrance. This area is designed to keep moving... we like to think of it as a "reverse" drive-thru - instead of picking up your coffee, you're dropping off your child. The staff will be there to help the children exit the vehicle and walk safely into the yard. Please drop the children off in the zone identified with pylons. Please do not park or vacate your car in this area. There is parent parking available in the lot if you prefer to park and walk your child onto the yard.

- Our Parent Council meets once per month, on every second Tuesday of the month. The meetings begin at 7pm in the school library and are usually complete by 9pm. New parents are always welcome to attend. This year's first meeting will occur on Tuesday, September 13th at 7pm. We will be choosing our new executive at this time as well as setting some of the goals for this year.

- This year's Meet The Teacher Evening will take place on Wednesday, September 28th from 5pm to 7pm.

- Lastly, on behalf of the entire South March Team, we look forward to another great year in this great community.

Warmly,

Ms. Shirley
