Welcome to South March Public School
South March Public School opened its doors for the first time on September 1, 2009. We are the newest kindergarten to grade 6 elementary school in the Ottawa Carleton District School Board. Located in the Kanata North area of Ottawa, our students come from the Briarbrook and March communities. Click here to see a map showing the school boundaries. We are a dual track school, providing regular English programs with Core French daily and Early French immersion programs for our senior kindergarten to grade 6 students. We embrace the OCDSB's mission statement: Educating for Success: Inspiring Learning and Building Citizenship, and are looking forward to developing positive relationships between home and school. The development of this school website is intended to give parents and family members a glimpse into the learning that happens every day at South March Public School. It is hoped that all who visit the site will enjoy this small taste of school life.

The penguin is our school mascot. Starburst is the big penguin and Snowflake is the little one. The little penguins were made as a birthday treat for one of our students.
We had our first Cake Raffle on March 29th. It was a terrific success. Click on the picture to see a slide show of the cakes.

Review of Boundaries, Program Offerings and Grade Structures in Kanata Elementary Schools
Back in October 2009, OCDSB staff met with representatives and principals of all Kanata schools to talk about overcrowding at schools in the Kanata North area, residential developments in Kanata, new Ministry of Education initiatives and best use of existing facilities. As a result of that discussion, it was determined that a “Kanata-wide” review was needed.
As such staff is proposing an Accommodation Review for the Kanata area (elementary schools) to commence in September 2010. Any recommendations approved by board would likely be implemented in September 2012; however, it is anticipated that smaller, interim changes in the form of smaller boundary adjustments or program changes may have to be implemented in September 2011, in the context of the larger, ongoing ARC discussions.
The ARC shall include membership drawn from the school community and the broader community. As such, staff will be looking for representation from each of the schools identified in the study.
Additional information will be posted on the website (www.ocdsb.ca) as the process unfolds.
Host Families Wanted
Our school will be hosting a special delegation from Peking University Elementary School this Fall! This is a wonderful and exciting opportunity for our children to meet these visiting Grade 5 and 6 students from China who will study for one month in our school. They will be accompanied by a school teacher and will be integrated into our classes. Their goal is to improve their English and to develop an awareness of Canadian life, culture and school. As part of the program we are looking for families within our community to host the students in their homes. An honorarium is given to families for their hosting duties. Those interested can contac Canada Homestay International that takes care of all homestay placements for international students in the OCDSB. Their contact information is; info@canadahomestayinternational.com but you can also ask about being a homestay by applying directly online at: canadahomestayinternational.com
